
Moong Dal Soup
A light, healthy and easy-to-cook Indian moong dal soup — protein-rich, comforting and perfect for any meal.

- Wash the moong dal well under running water until water runs clear.
- In a saucepan, combine the washed dal, water, turmeric powder and salt. Bring to a boil, then simmer on low heat until dal becomes soft and mushy (about 15-20 minutes). Stir occasionally.
- Once the dal is soft, use a spoon or whisk to lightly mash it so it becomes smooth and soup-like. Adjust thickness by adding a little more water if needed.
- In a small pan, heat ghee (or oil). Add cumin seeds and asafoetida. When cumin starts crackling, pour this tempering over the soup.
- Stir well. Pour soup into bowls, garnish with chopped coriander leaves. Serve hot.
Notes
You can add a squeeze of lemon juice or a pinch of pepper for extra flavour. For added nutrition, gently stir in chopped spinach or grated carrot while cooking dal.
